Kickin’ It Country Debuts on July 5 at Markham Museum
MARKHAM, ON – June 2, 2025 – Dust off your boots and mark your calendars! The City of Markham is thrilled to announce the debut of Kickin’ It Country, a brand-new summer festival happening on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
Following the success of their award-winning AppleFest collaboration in 2024, Markham Museum, an expansive 25-acre open-air site featuring both historic and modern structures, is once again partnering with Rouge River Brewing Company, an award-winning Markham-based craft brewery. Together, they’re bringing the community an unforgettable country-themed evening filled with toe-tapping tunes, lively line dancing, local flavours, and interactive entertainment—all in the heart of the City.
“Kickin’ It Country is a fantastic new addition to Markham’s vibrant calendar of summer events,” said Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “Celebrations like these exemplify why the City of Markham was named the 2025 Municipality of the Year by Festivals & Events Ontario. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together, support local talent and businesses, and celebrate the season in a truly unique way. We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike to the Markham Museum for what promises to be a memorable evening of music, dancing, and fun.”
The Festival kicks off with high-energy line dancing sessions led by Cheatin’ Hearts, a popular dance crew offering 45-minute lessons throughout the night. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or stepping onto the floor for the first time, their enthusiastic instructors will have everyone moving to the rhythm of country beats and good times.
Live music takes centre stage with performances by local favourites The Beresfords and Courtney Bowles from School of Rock Markham, culminating in a headlining set by acclaimed Canadian country artist Rebekah Hawker.
Beyond the music and dancing, Kickin’ It Country offers a wide range of interactive experiences. Attendees can test their skills at lasso throwing with Extreme Cowgirl Susan Caldwell, capture memories at themed photo booths, and browse a curated marketplace featuring local vendors and artisans. Guests can also enjoy oversized lawn games like Giant Jenga, savour delicious local brews and bites, and step back in time with live demonstrations at the Museum’s historic Blacksmith Shop.
Kickin’ It Country would not be possible without the generous support of our Presenting Sponsor, Benczik Kavanagh Real Estate.
